Emerging trends in Talent Management
The employer is responsible for recruiting and developing the workforce to become productive and to stay long term in the organization. If the employer is smart and implement the process strategically, the overall performance of the business improves and ensures its competitiveness (Ross, 2013).
With the pandemics, new
trends of managing the talents within an organization were emerged and HR
leaders are frequently monitoring on these in designing new work models. In order
to beat the competition to increasingly scarce talent, keep the talent already
available and ensure people are engaged and have a clear career path in the
organization there are six most important emerging trends in talent management
to be considered (Frank &
Taylor, 2004).
- The Great Resignation – or the case of the
paradoxical labor market
- Employee wellbeing will continue to be a
key area of focus
- Workforce optimization and increasing
automation
- Closing the skills gap
- Hybrid work is driving business
transformation
- Adopting the technology and tools to
support changes to workplace dynamics
(Unit4
Communications, 2022)
1. The Great Resignation – or the case of the paradoxical labor market
Employees are tend to
discern more on the value offered to their time and talent when performing
tasks specially in terms of compensation and additional benefits like work life
balance, flexibility, more opportunities, interest and motivation. Therefore,
it is important to consider what the employee expect rather than what the
employer expect from the employee when recruiting new bloods.
2. Employee wellbeing will continue to be a key area of focus
Employee wellbeing is
another evolving trend where the employer should pay the attention on employees’
individual and family lives and their ambitions outside of the working
environment.
3. Workforce optimization and increasing automation
For industries which are
people-centric, workforce optimization & automation represent a great
opportunity. Both can play a vital part in keeping the people engaged, giving
them a reason to stay with the organization in long term and helping to tackle
the Great Resignation.
“Workforce
optimization means ensuring the people are working on the tasks that add value
to the organization, match their skillsets, and facilitate their development
and career advancement” (Unit4
Communications, 2022).
“Automation
means relieving fee-earners, specialists, and strategic decision-makers of the
burdens of administration and operational complexity” (Unit4
Communications, 2022).
4. Closing the skills gap
Planning on filling the
gaps in employee skill levels is the next trend as the people rich in skills
gives the competitive advantage for the organization to move forward.
5. Hybrid work is
driving business transformation
With the pandemics, hybrid working was came into track
adding multiple new working styles into the organizations and with the new
normal after pandemic forces the organizations to reorient their digital
transformation projects around facilitating hybrid working.
6. Adopting the
technology and tools to support changes to workplace dynamics
The adoption of new HR toolkits and technology should provide the platform to visualize the employee skills and their performance/contribution for the organizational success and should provide the flexibility the team need in designing and completing workflows to accommodate everyone despite of their working center/location.
